What is Acidosis, Really?

Acidosis in the body is a major contributor to a great number of diseases and ailments. The sad truth is that acidosis has become an epidemic in our country. The main reason for this outbreak is the daily consumption of the standard American diet. Let’s take a closer look at the causes and effects of acidosis in the body, and then examine some ways to reduce the instance of acidosis effectively.

The human body is made up a complex series of functions and systems. Each of these systems operates in conjunction with other bodily systems and each has its own order of operation. And since each system operates interdependently, each must be supplied with the commodities necessary for survival. You can think of your body like an assembly line, as long as each part does its job properly the end product is good. However, if one system fails, the entire body fails. Therefore, it’s imperative that we provide each system with exactly what it needs to function properly.

The body’s pH level is a major contributing factor in the way its systems function. The acronym pH stands for ‘potential of hydrogen’, and because the body is largely comprised of water (H2O), the ‘potential of hydrogen (H) is in a constant struggle. Science has told us that positively charged ions are acid forming and negatively charged ions are alkaline forming. Acidic environments breed disease, fungus, and viruses at an alarming rate. If your body is acidic, that means you are a walking breeding ground for illness! To the contrary, disease cannot survive in an alkaline environment. If you can maintain a body that hovers in the slightly alkaline range, you’ll be virtually impervious to disease! That’s not to say that those who strive to be alkaline NEVER get sick, but statistics prove the instance of illness in an alkaline system is significantly reduces, to the point where it’s a rarity. The sad truth is that, eating the standard American diet, at least 90% of everything we consume is positively charged. That means, in order to prevent acidosis, we have to work for it!

By now you might be wondering what your pH levels look like and if you are, in fact, an illness breeding ground. You can find out by using pH strips. These strips can be purchased via a wide variety of sources and can be used to test urine or saliva. You will know within a matter of minutes whether or not you fall into a healthy range. Chances are, if you eat the diet of an average American, you’re as acidic as they come! But don’t despair, you can turn all that around simply by adding alkaline water to your diet.

Alkaline water, or negatively charged water, will neutralize the acid in your body and regulate your system very quickly. You just have to be sure you’re drinking enough of it to make a difference!
